Main Task: Mood Board

This is my moodboard that I designed, this is targeted at R'n'B because this is what I want my College magazine to be about. I added these pictures of famous artists because its shows what kind of people they look like are their appearances as an R’n’B artist, also I used a picture of a Mic to resemble them singing because it shows them as a solo artist and a picture of car because most famous artists have expensive cars so this symbolises what R'n'B music offers them.

A Music magazine company that I've researched is called ‘MusicMags’. MusicMags Company is managed by the Music Magazine Publishers Association and is distributed by Alfred Music Publishing. MusicMags supplies a selection of over two dozen world known magazines to music instrument dealers in the US and Canada. A Unique point about MusicMags is that they make magazines easy with a single point of contact service and a 50% off all cover prices. Also MusicMags offers a broad selection meaning that they title cover every category drums, guitars, bass, pro audio, band and orchestra. MusicMags Company publishes magazines titles for example like ‘Bass Players’, ‘Acoustic Guitars’, ‘Drum!’, ‘DJ Times’, ‘Drumhead’, ‘JazzTimes’, ‘Halftime’, ‘The Beatles’ and many more. There are different types of audience that are targeted by these magazines for example MusicMags Publishes Rock Music and people that are interested in Rock music or have a passion in rock music this magazine will be really beneficial to them. Also people that are interested in bands like ‘The Beatles’ this magazine could be targeted for them because they publish band music yet along Rock, Jazz and solo music. MusicMags have to target different an audience with each magazine that it makes this is because everyone has a different type of taste in their music so this company has to meet every customers needs to satisfy them. Also it will target different audiences because the company ‘MusicMags’ itself also has to make a profit within the business. The company hasn't got any other business interests. Also a interesting fact from MusicMags is that 2,100,000 turn to the business for product knowledge. MusicMags 1400+ retailers collectively earned up to 3.2 times the industry standard in annual revenue per square foot through their MusicMags program.

Main Task: Profiling Your Audience

Aaron is 21 Years Old and Loves His R'n'B Music with Passion. also because of this it classifies they type of friends he plays and communicates with and his friends are also into R'n'B music. Aaron's hobbies is just Music if he isn't listening to R'n'B music his writing songs so this is his favorite Hobby. Also Aaron goes to a University of Music where he goes to strengthen his knowledge with Music. His only interest is Music, he bleeds music each and everyday. Aaron works in a music industry in Greenwich where he produces Music with young adults that want to become music producers, he helps them out with different type of music especially R'n'B. Lastly his face expressions and clothing he wears is really important to him because his R'n'B Icons influences him to act like them and talk like them.

Main Task: Audience Research

To find what my community wanted in my college magazine, I did an audience research to find information that can beneficial to my music magazine. Firstly I asked some people what kind of name I should name my magazine the first option was Passion, Grime Hard, Flow & Feeling the wave and out of this the names ‘Feeling the wave’ came up the most so this is the name am going to use for my magazine. Also I wanted to find out what colour scheme people might be interested in and the colour theme that came up the most was Red & Black, so my magazine theme will be Red & Black. Also I fount out that the magazine shouldn’t be free it should cost £1.50 each, also I researched that the people wanted prizes to be involved in the magazine so that the reader can interact with the magazine, lastly I asked people that should my magazine be targeted at both males and females and both males & females carried the vote.

Denotation: In this double spread page we can see males and a female having fun with each other minding their own business and posing like teenagers.

Connotation: The meanings attached to it could maybe be that if you read this magazine you’ll have fun as well and you could benefit from this.

Mise-en-scene

• Costume- The costume used to represent the teenagers are casual clothing that most teenagers will wear so straight will be able to identify what the magazine could be about.
• Props- the props used seem to be like an animal teddy bear that the girl is playing with.
• Setting- the setting shows that it was shot in a studio because it has a plan background with nothing happening behind it.
• Lighting- the lighting of the double spread page is really dull because its grey and this doesn’t really attract the reader.
• NVC (Non-Verbal Communication)- the NVC shows that most of the teenagers have a happy face expression while the rest have a straight face.

Anchorage: the word that helps to show the meaning of the picture is the Masthead which is ‘Teen Spirit’ this goes with the picture because they are all teenagers having fun so it shows the happy spirit that teenagers have.

Magazine Conventions

· Masthead (Logo): the masthead of the double spread is ‘Teen Spirit’ this stands out boldly because it’s the only biggest font on the page also is in white with a fancy font style.

· Main Image: the main image is the picture with the 4 boys and 1 girl teenagers also it stands out because it’s also the only image.

· Cover-lines: there is a cover line that quotes ‘’I Just Love Dancing and screaming’’ these are cover lines to interest the reader.

· Selling Line: A selling line used on the double spread page is ‘’what are Rolo Tomassi made of’’ this will attract the reader because they like to see the answer of this question so this will make them to buy the magazine.

Denotation- On the front page of this magazine we can see a big image of an artist called ‘Snoop Dogg’ so this tells me that the magazine is going to be about music.

· Costume- The costume used for the person in the image is casual dressing.

· Props- There are no props used in this certain image so this doesn’t mainly give us an idea what the magazine could be about if for example we picked up a magazine for the first time.

· Setting- The setting of this image seems like it was shot in a studio because the picture looks professional.

· Lighting- the lighting of the magazine is kind of bright because the person in the image is wearing a purple jumper while the background is yellow and white.

· NVC – the non verbal communication of this person shows that he is really serious.

Anchorage: Firstly the words that helps to know the meaning of the picture if the name ‘Snoop Dogg’ because once we read this name will know that it’s a music magazine. Also on the right hand side of the magazine it reads ‘Rocko’ which is an American rapper so it goes with the image because the person also looks like someone that raps.

Magazine Conventions:

· Masthead (Logo) – The title of the magazine is big and bold with grey font this really stands out on the yellow and white background so straight away you’ll know that it’s the title of the magazine and it shows a different from the rest of the sub-headings.

· Dateline: the dateline is right next to the barcode this helps to present that you’ll be up to date with information and it’s a regular magazine that comes out every week.

· Main Image- The main image of the magazine is the picture of ‘Snoop Dogg’ this stands about because it’s the only image on the page.

· Cover lines: The cover lines are spread all around the page and these are easy to spot because they are different colours being used for example black, yellow, grey, purple and white.

· Main Cover Line: The main cover line of this magazine is ‘Is Sippin Syrup Liquid Death? PG. 17’ we can tell because it’s right on top of the masthead in a purple text box and white writing so this catches the reader’s attention.

· Barcode: The barcode is at the bottom left of the page and this shows that the magazine cost a certain price and it’s not free so this is unique.

· Selling Line: there’s a few selling lines but the first thing that can be called a selling line is ‘Snoop Dogg’ because people could be great fans of him and once they see a magazine about him they will want to buy one straight away.

· Website Link: Also the website is also next to the barcode. The website link is used for people to have a similar magazine online, maybe for those people that can’t afford the magazine but have access to internet.

Hello my name is Olufemi. I am a AS Media Student. For this assignment I will have to make a Music Magazine, which will consist of a Front cover, contents page and a double spread page and my front cover will will have up to 100 words and my double page spread will have up to at least 400words. So before I start this assignment I am going to do couple planning and research. This project will be due on the 26th of March 2012. The Kind of music magazine I am going to do is Hip Hop. I am choosing Hip Hop because I enjoy hip hop music and I think I can produce some think good in this assignment.
