
Denotation: In this double spread page we can see males and a female having fun with each other minding their own business and posing like teenagers.
Connotation: The meanings attached to it could maybe be that if you read this magazine you’ll have fun as well and you could benefit from this.
Mise-en-scene
- Costume- The costume used to represent the teenagers are casual clothing that most teenagers will wear so straight will be able to identify what the magazine could be about.
- Props- the props used seem to be like an animal teddy bear that the girl is playing with.
- Setting- the setting shows that it was shot in a studio because it has a plan background with nothing happening behind it.
- Lighting- the lighting of the double spread page is really dull because its grey and this doesn’t really attract the reader.
- NVC (Non-Verbal Communication)- the NVC shows that most of the teenagers have a happy face expression while the rest have a straight face.
Anchorage: the word that helps to show the meaning of the picture is the Masthead which is ‘Teen Spirit’ this goes with the picture because they are all teenagers having fun so it shows the happy spirit that teenagers have.
Magazine Conventions
· Masthead (Logo): the masthead of the double spread is ‘Teen Spirit’ this stands out boldly because it’s the only biggest font on the page also is in white with a fancy font style.
· Main Image: the main image is the picture with the 4 boys and 1 girl teenagers also it stands out because it’s also the only image.
· Cover-lines: there is a cover line that quotes ‘’I Just Love Dancing and screaming’’ these are cover lines to interest the reader.
· Selling Line: A selling line used on the double spread page is ‘’what are Rolo Tomassi made of’’ this will attract the reader because they like to see the answer of this question so this will make them to buy the magazine.
